Greg Spitz MD, FACS

Greg Spitz MD, FACSDr. Greg Spitz graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana with a BS degree in biology in 1980 and received his M.D. degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1984. His five year surgery residency was completed at the University of Illinois in 1989. He became a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery (Board Certified) in 1990 and recertified in 2008. He was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 1994. Dr. Spitz has been in the Fox Valley since 1991. He has served on the board of directors of the Kane County Medical Society, including being secretary/treasurer, vice president, and president. He is a long-standing member of the American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, the Warren Cole Surgical Society, and the American College of Phlebology. He has served on physician advisory boards for CIGNA, Principal, and Health-South Corporations.

Dr. Spitz has published numerous articles in professional journals on varicose vein surgery and hernia repair. Dr. Spitz invented the TriVex System for varicose vein removal in 1996 and holds several patents in the field of vein surgery and other areas of medicine. He has traveled extensively teaching varicose vein surgery to physicians. Dr. Spitz invented the TCI (tumescent catheter inversion) System® which was FDA approved in 2004 and is now on its way to becoming the gold standard in removing the saphenous vein with minimally invasive technique. Most recently, Dr. Spitz invented Tumescent Enhanced Sclerotherapy® which promises more effective and efficient treatment for patients in an office setting. Dr. Spitz is a senior attending and on the teaching staff at Rush-Copley Medical Center and also performs surgery at Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center. Dr. Spitz regularly trains physicians from around the world on vein treatment.  It is not unusual to see physicians from Asia, Australia, or from any European country visiting AmeriVein and Dr. Spitz.  Dr. Spitz recently traveled to Honduras to participate in the American College of Surgeons Operation Giving Back.

Jeff Braxton, MD FACS

Jeff Braxton, MD FACSDr. Jeff Braxton grew up in Michigan and after graduating from Northern Michigan University, Dr. Braxton attended the University of Michigan Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1989. Dr. Braxton moved to Illinois, completing his residency program in general surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in 1994. Dr. Braxton is board certified in general surgery and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Braxton is a member of the American Medical Association, Illinois Medical Society, and the Kane County Medical Society. He is an instructor for the Department of Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He is on staff at Edward Hospital in Naperville and Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He has served as the chairman of Trauma at Rush Copley Medical Center for over 10 years.

After performing ambulatory phlebectomy for years, Dr. Braxton embraced the new technology of TriVex and was instrumental in advancing and perfecting the technique. He is actively involved in the advancement of surgical education, instructing surgeons around the country in techniques varicose vein treatment. He has authored scientific papers on advanced vein disease and has presented at vascular meetings. “I feel education is very important to get the best care,” says Dr. Braxton. “Many people have been needlessly suffering for years or have been frustrated with ineffective and sometimes costly treatments. I enjoy taking time to talk with and examine my patients to understand their concerns and issues. I can then design a treatment plan that will meet or exceed their expectations. It is very gratifying to be able to help alleviate the symptoms many patients suffer with. I especially enjoy meeting with my patients at the completion of a treatment plan while looking over their ‘Before’ pictures.”
